Dell Joins DisplayPort Party

DataPro News > Technical Info

Dell has announced that their next 30" LCD, the 3008WXP, will include DisplayPort as one of its input options.

Samsung isn't the only big name in the LCD business who's adopting the DisplayPort interface in their latest and greatest; Dell has announced that their newest 30" LCD will include DisplayPort input.

Like Dell's older 3007WXP and Samsung's upcoming DisplayPort LCD, Dell's new monitor will have a 2560x1600 WQXGA native resolution.

Users disappointed with Dell's older 3007WXP will be happy to know that this new model includes an image scaler to handle non-native resolutions. This new model also offers an impressive array of input options.

The input options on the 3008WXP include:

  • 2 x DVI-D dual-link
  • VGA
  • HDMI
  • DisplayPort
  • Component Video
  • S-Video

These early specifications don't indicate the response rate or panel color depth yet, but it's great to see more LCD vendors supporting the DisplayPort standard. Whether or not it replaces DVI or HDMI, it certainly looks like DisplayPort's future is bright.
