WHDI Offers Wireless HDMI at 1080P

Amimon is shipping it's WHDI (Wireless High Definition Interface) chips to HDTV and playback device manufacturers.

This interface allows full HD 1080p and high-definition audio to be transmitted throughout an entire home, with a range of up to 100 feet. Amimon claims this will come with no signal loss or additional latency.

WHDI chips can be embedded into most consumer electronics devices, such as HDTVs, projectors, DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray players, AV receivers, and game consoles. This could potentially allow much more simplified device interconnects, such as transmitting HD audio directly to a receiver while sending the video directly to the monitor.

Amimon's WHDI chips offer completely lossless HD video, which translates to roughly 3Gbps of bandwidth at 1080p resolution. Amimon promises a robust, noiseless signal with only 1ms of latency.

Amimon hopes to make WHDI the standard for wireless HDMI transmission. WHDI chips and documentation are available to manufacturers now.
