The USB-to-IDE converter cable will
allow any Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP PC or
Apple Macintosh (Mac OS 8.6 or newer)
equipped with a USB port to connect an
ATA/IDE/EIDE device via the USB port.
Drivers aren't required except on Windows
98SE.
This device is Plug-and-Play compatable.
Simply plug the USB connector into the
PC USB port and plug the 40-Pin IDE
connector into your IDE device. This model
provides a power switch to power up the
drive once it has been safely plugged in.
The UI-210 is powered by an external
adapter. This allows it to provide power
to an IDE device with the Molex 4-pin hard
drive connector.
This product can be used to switch hard
drives without restarting your computer.
You can simply remove the USB device,
disable it in the Windows Hardware tab,
or suspend the computer. When you bring
it back online with a new hard drive, it
will detect the change and allow you to
format it if necessary.
This product works with both USB 1.1 and
USB 2.0 standards, and will use the speed
capabilities of the best it detects. We
recommend using a USB 2.0 card
with this product.
The package includes the adaptor, a CD-ROM with drivers, and a power supply.
Drivers for this product are available to download on the Product Driver Downloads Page.
This device mounts a hard drive with all the functionality of an IDE drive,
including formatting, partitioning, sharing, and backing up (via drag-n-drop
or ghosting software).
NOTE: If you cannot or choose not to use the 110 volt transformer shipped
with the unit, we can make you a DataPro P/N 1919 that
is 3 feet long that you can connect from inside your PC to the external drive.
NOTE: This device only works with a single hard drive, which must be set to
"Master" or "Single Drive", whichever applies to your hard drive. It will
not work with a "Slaved" hard drive.
