The FireWire active booster extension cable is a 6-pin
IEEE-1394 extension cable with a powered repeater at
the female end. This cable allows the extension of a
firewire cable without risking signal loss or slowdown.
The cable is bus-powered, so it requires no external
supply and is completely transparent to the hardware.
The IEEE-1394 specification mandates that FireWire cables
must function at lengths of up to 16 feet. Our tests have
shown our standard FireWire cables
and FireWire extensions to
be fully functional at up to 60 feet, but field results
may vary.
With the inclusion of a powered booster, however, the signal
is guaranteed for each booster in the line. Chaining these
repeater cables together guarantees up to 80 feet with most
devices.
Further in-house tests have shown functional firewire at over 100
feet with the inclusion of a single FBX-15C, but again, your
results may vary.
These cables are i.Link compliant and feature the 6-pin firewire
connector on each end.
