RS-232 to RS-485 Converter Extender Unit

The DataPro 8500 can extend the range of an RS-232 connection by transparently converting it to RS-485 and back, over distances up to 4000ft (1200m). It also features Multidrop support for networked operation.

This fully bi-directional interface converter supports several configurations of RS-232 Serial to RS422/RS485, including:

Point-to-point: Using two 8500 units to connect two RS-232 devices.

Multidrop: Two, three, or more 8500 units can be networked together in Full or Half Duplex.

Simplex: A broadcast and receive mode where one unit acts as a broadcaster, and the others as receivers.

Monitor: A third unit can be used to monitor signals between two other devices. Useful for debugging and troubleshooting.

These devices feature a female DB25 port on the RS-232 side, and both RJ11 and 4-pin screw terminals on the RS-485 side. Configuration is set via switches.

Units sold individually, with a minimum of two required for point-to-point operation. 9V 300mA Power supply included.
