The USB External Hard Drive Enclosure
is designed to connect most laptop IDE
2.5" hard drives to a computer via the
USB 1.1 or 2.0 port.
The laptop hard drive can live nice and
safe in the aluminum enclosure, while a USB
cable connects it to a computer. The chipset
inside the enclosure identifies the drive
as a universal removable drive, so it is
compatible with most any computer type and
operating system.
The enclosure is powered either by an
external DC power adaptor or via the
USB bus. Unlike their larger cousins,
the small size of the 2.5" drives allows
them the option of bus-powering while
3.5" drives must always be powered externally.
This product can be used to switch hard
drives without restarting your computer.
It is recommended to use the operating system's
built-in methods to "eject" the drive before
removing the USB cable, to prevent data loss.
NOTE: This device only works with a single
hard drive, which must be set to "Master"
or "Single Drive" (whichever applies to your
hard drive). It will not work with a "Slave"
hard drive. Newer hard drives that use the
SATA interface do not have Master/Slave configuration,
but they're not compatible with this
enclosure anyway. This product is only for IDE drives.
