The DataPro FireWire wall plate is a machine-cut face plate with a single
cutout for a 6-pin FireWire connector. Available in rugged aluminum or
clean white plastic, these plates are perfect for installing remotely accessible
FireWire devices when combined with our bulkhead-mounting firewire cables.
Computer labs, video editing stations, and camera rooms are just a few of the
places these plates can be used. They are precision-cut to be mated with our
panel-mount FireWire cables, which offer
high-speed data transfer over the reliable IEEE-1394 interface. (Please note that
the plate itself does not include any connectors or couplers.)
FireWire is the a fast and reliable plug-n-play interface,
and is commonly found on digital camcorders, external hard drives, and cameras.
Despite USB 2.0 advertising a higher specification speed, in the real world FireWire
was the speed champion over USB time and time again. The battle is raging again now
with USB 3.0 and FireWire 800, but this face plate doesn't really care for any of that stuff.
It's just happy to be here, and happy that you're taking the time to read all about it.
The cutout on our firewire wall plates is for the 6-pin FireWire connection, called
i.Link by some manufacturers. This offers additional data channels for increased
bus speeds, and is compatible with the low-profile 4-pin connector commonly
found on FireWire devices. It is also compatible with the 9-pin connector on FireWire 800,
although any mixed setup will automatically downgrade to the highest speed of the slowest
member.
